Riverton, Utah (June 1, 2016)—The Riverton FamilySearch Library (RFSL) has announced a continuation of its free seminar series on Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. The keynote speakers will be Robert Taylor, CEO, and Robert Ives, COO, of the Family History Guide Foundation. Registration is not required.
9:00–10:00—Keynote Speakers: Robert Taylor, CEO, and Robert Ives, COO
Topic: “The Family History Guide: Opening Family History to the World”
Discover how the Family History Guide is getting more people involved in family history worldwide by providing a game-changing learning path.
Robert Taylor, CEO of the Family History Guide, has been actively doing family history for over 25 years. He has combined his passion for genealogy with his background in instructional design to produce this new learning resource for family history. Bob earned a bachelor’s degree from BYU and a master’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles, both in music education. He has authored many online and written learning systems, helping other to accelerate learning in technology, music, and family history.
Robert Ives, COO of the Family History Guide, received a master’s degree in computerized curriculum design and worked as the director of instructional technology for the Utah State Office of Education. Bob was instrumental in the spread of technology in the state and the development of cutting-edge programs. He formed his own technology consulting and training company, Educational Renaissance, Inc., and worked as an IBM business partner for 15 years.
Following the keynote presentation from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., two blocks of four classes are offered that cover topics of interest for all levels of family history enthusiasts.
10:10–11:10 a.m. Choose one of the following four classes:
- “An Overview of the Family History Guide” by Robert Taylor and Robert Ives
- “Basic Computer Skills, Part 1″ by Kenneth Spencer (A flash drive is needed in this class.)
- “Deciphering Handwriting” by Colleen Stutz
- “TreeSeek.com—Current and Future Features” by Matt Misbach
11:20 a.m.–12:20 p.m. Choose one of the following four classes:
- “Training with the Family History Guide” by Robert Taylor and Robert Ives
- “Basic Computer Skills, Part 2″ by Kenneth Spencer (A flash drive is needed in this class.)
- “Lesser-Known Records and Analysis of Those Records” by Colleen Stutz
- “TreeSeek.com—Current and Future Features” by Matt Misbach
The Riverton FamilySearch Library will host a family discovery day in conjunction with this monthly seminar. Families can participate in fun activities used in family history. Youth of all ages are invited.
