This Week’s Genealogy News:

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SUNDAY

MyHeritage has extended the deadline to Sunday, Oct. 13 at midnight,  to upload your DNA data to their site and get full access to ALL of their DNA features for free, FOREVER. They support uploads from Ancestry, FamilyTreeDNA (Family Finder) and 23andMe.  Details here.

GENEALOGY GAME SHOW

If you’re up for a fun combination of genealogy research techniques AND game show,  you’ll want to sign up for the Search Party Game Show. Led by Janet Hovorka, Crista Cowan and Diahan Southard, their proven 5-step process “gives you foundational family history skills and teaches you how to DO GENEALOGY and break down those brick walls in your family tree, while also playing some super fun games.” The program will be held twice; choose to attend either Oct 23 25 8pm ET or Oct 24 at 2 pm ET. Whether you want to be a contestant or just watch, either way, for $10 you’ll have a lot of fun and come away with new skills. Full details here.

SEEKING AMERICA’S STORYTELLERS

America250 is launching a road tour across the US, looking for storytellers to share audio interviews about their lives. They’re working to create the largest-ever oral history collection and digital archive “to educate and inspire future generations.”  Nominate yourself or someone you know to contribute, here.

FREE MAYFLOWER ANCESTRY GUIDE

American Ancestors is offering a free resource guide to help you prove your Mayflower ancestry. Of the original 102 passengers & crew that left England in September of 1620, nearly half of the passengers who survived the voyage died during the first winter after their arrival in America. And yet about 35 million people can trace their ancestry to the 26 Mayfloweri families known to have left descendants. This free guide may help you find your connection to Mayflower ancestors. Details here.

FREE MAGAZINE & TRIAL OFFER

Family Tree Magazine (the UK folks) are offering their September issue for free, as well as a free trial to their Family Tree Plus program. I subscribed to the Plus program for about a year, and was really happy with the programs, discussion groups, and other perks, so I can easily recommend trying it out with this free trial offer. As always, this isn’t a paid advertisement — I saw the offer online and thought I’d share it with y’all. Details here.
