ALL of the upcoming genealogy events.

This week’s email is kindly being sponsored by Evalogue Life

We invite you to our live Oral History Interviewing class in April. This small-group Zoom series on capturing voices and stories is only taught once a year, and it fills every time. Perfect for genealogists who want to add this as a product to your lineup, volunteers, and families wishing to preserve memories. This inspiring yet actionable series will save you tremendous time by walking you through the best/easiest tech, questions to ask, and interviewing techniques. You will have the confidence to move forward and interview someone (even if it’s your first time) – and forever be glad you did. April 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 5:00-6:30 PM Mountain Time.  Save $30 with our RootsTech special through midnight on March 11Code: conference

🔵 CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS DATE EXTENDED

The speaker submission deadline for the East Coast Genetic Genealogy Conference has been extended to March 15, 2024. See our Calls for Papers/Presentations page for details of this and MANY other speaking opportunities.

🔵 COMING LATER THIS SPRING

This week JewishGen announced that the pilot episode of Generations, the first Jewish-themed genealogy television series has been completed. The show is produced by the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, JewishGen, and JLTV. The show features actors Camryn Manheim (Law and Order, The Practice) and her son, Milo Manheim (School Spirits, Zombies), and explores their DNA and family roots, while revealing artifacts, objects, documents, and photographs to paint a full family portrait.

This pilot episode will air later this spring, but the trailer is available to watch now: https://www.jewishgen.org/generations

🔵 MISSISSIPPI ANCESTRY?

The Mississippi Department of Archives & History is offering a $3500 stipend to fund travel & accommodations for 5 consecutive days of research on your own family history at MDAH. Applications are due this week, though, on Friday, March 15. (Sorry for the late notice — this just came to my attention!) Details on our Awards/Grants/Scholarships page, and also here.

🔵 STILL MORE SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES THIS WEEK

The Board for Certification of Genealogists offers three scholarships of $1700 toward tuition, travel and lodging expense of attending one of four national genealogy institutes. BCG will also waive its final application fee of $300 for scholarship recipients who submit portfolios of work to be considered for certification within three years of the announcement of an award. Applications for all three scholarships are due this Friday, March 15. The scholarships are the Under 40 Institute Scholarship, the “On the Clock” Institute Scholarship, and the Paul Edward Sluby Sr. Scholarship for African Americans. Details on our Awards, Grants & Scholarships page and at the BCG website.

🔵 ASHKENAZIC JEWISH ROOTS?
“Introduction to Ashkenazic Jewish Genealogy” is one of the courses being offered in-person this year at the GRIP Genealogy Institute, July 14-19. This course is an excellent foundation for family history research of Jewish people, with a focus on Ashkenazic Jewry (those primarily living in Eastern and Central Europe). Space is limited, but seats are still available! See the full course information at the GRIP website.

In case you were wondering, I survived my hip replacement surgery. I’m excited to be walking again – not so excited about all the physical therapy, sitting around with ice packs and leg elevated, and prescriptions (which I’m blaming for any errors this week) that follow though. But time files when you’re having fun 🙂 As always, if you have any questions, corrections, comments, or concerns, please let me know! You may reach me through either the CONTACT form on the website or email at info@conferencekeeper.org . Please understand that this week response time may be slower than normal! – Tami Osmer Mize
