  • Robert Treat Paine, 1731. Jurist and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Torquato Tasso, 1544. Italian Poet of the late Renaissance, prone to violent outbursts and acute sensitivity to criticism. Evidently a trendsetter.
  • Lawrence Welk, 1903. Accordion player from North Dakota. His TV show was the longest running primetime program in television history, from 1955 until 1971.
  • Harold Wilson, 1916. British statesman and two-time prime minister.
