August 7-12, 2016 – 36th IAJGS Int’l Conference on Jewish Genealogy, Seattle, Washington

The conference will run from  9 AM  Sunday, August 7, to noon Friday, August 12, 2016, at the Sheraton Seattle Downtown Hotel, 1400 Sixth Avenue, Seattle, Washington 98101.

This year’s focus is The Wandering Jew.

Tracks will include:

  • The Sephardic Experience in the United States
  • European Migrations
  • South American, Australian and South African Branches
  • Westward Ho! Jews in the Western US
  • Coming Home to Israel

A special feature of this year’s conference will be sessions on Sunday morning, August 7, about teaching genealogy in formal and informal educational settings.

2016 Finnish-American Folk Festival of Naselle, Washington

July 29, 30, 31 – 2016

The eighteenth biennial Finnish American Folk Festival will take place at the schools in Naselle, WA, USA, July 29th-31st.

This cultural event presents a feast for all the senses.  Sight-authentic costumes, folk dancers,  historic photos,  genealogy charts and cut flower arrangements.   Hearing-music including the Finnish national instrument, the kantele, presentations on numerous topics.  Taste and smell-Finnish foods such as makkkara, sima, pannukakku, leipä.  Touch-hugs galore from friends and family and new acquaintances.  It is a fun-filled event for all ages, and the only admission is a donation.
