For the 2017 WMGS Writing Contest, entries should focus on the Great Lakes Region (Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, New York, Ohio, Ontario, and Pennsylvania). We would love to hear your story. Dallas Genealogical Society 2017 Writing Contest
The Dallas Genealogical Society announces that its 2017 Writing Contest is open for entries beginning January 1. This is the fifth year that the Society has sponsored this contest which comes with cash prizes. The contest is open to both members and non-members of DGS as well as amateurs and professionals. Only original material not previously published elsewhere in any format is eligible. Entries will be accepted January 1 through March 31, 2017. Complete details and entry info here.

Germans from Russia Heritage Society 2017 Pride in Your Heritage YOUTH Essay Contest
This year’s essay contest theme is “Germany/Russia/Americas…Giant Steppes Toward Freedom.”  This GRHS Essay Contest is open to all students attending public, private, parochial, or home schools, and to students attending accredited universities, as full time undergraduate students. The subject of the paper must be directly related to German Russian history, heritage or culture, and be the contestant’s original work. Theme:  GRHS — Today, Tomorrow, Always
Open to all adults, both members and non-members of GRHS.  Adult Essay contest entries should be two to five pages in length, typed, double spaced. The committee is looking for heartfelt opinions and thoughts, personal testimonies, and validation of the importance of the society. IAJGS sponsors and supports IJGM and offers an annual poster contest which promotes the IJGM. The IJGM Poster submissions are due by June 20th each year. See the details on the IAJGS website.

Connecticut Society of Genealogists Literary Awards
Grand prize of $500, and two first prizes of $250 each. Entry is open to anyone except CSG staff & current board members. CSG membership or Connecticut residency is NOT required. Entry categories are a) Genealogy (descendency), b) Family History (ancestry), Genealogical Resource (i.e., cemetery abstracts, compilations, court records, etc.). $100 prize. Essays may include family stories; oral histories; excerpts from an ancestor’s journal/diary; Bible or cemetery transcriptions; and more. Massachusetts Society of Genealogists Writing Contest
The entry should cover no more than three generations of a family. Submissions could be a three-generation family study, tell an interesting story about parents and children, or provide a brief solution to a genealogical problem. The entry must not contain vital data for living persons.The contest is open to all members of the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists, Inc. (MSOG), except those members who are acting as judges for the contest.

American Society of Genealogists Scholar Award
An annual grant of $1000 awarded for study at one of five major academic genealogical programs in the US: Genealogical Institute on Federal Records (Gen-Fed), Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR), Certificate Program in Genealogical Research at Boston University, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy (SLIG), Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP). Texas State Genealogical Society Student Scholarship
A Student Scholarship is awarded each year in the amount of $1000 by TSGS to a student with plans to major in history, government, library science or education.

Texas State Genealogical Society Volunteer of the Year

Open to TxSGS members. Each Partner Society is invited to nominate one of its members for recognition as the Volunteer of the Year. One winner will be selected and receive a $50 cash award plus a plaque. Texas State Genealogical Society Writing Awards
Open to partner societies or individual members of TxSGS. Prizes awarded in each of eight categories, including a Student Projects category, which entries may be part of a school, library, genealogical society or museum initiative but must be sponsored by a partner society or individual member. Presented to an individual or nonprofit organization for a specific, significant single contribution in the form of a book, an article, or a series of articles published during the past three years that discusses genealogical methods and sources and serves to foster scholarship and/or otherwise advances or promotes excellence in genealogy. Nominees need not be members of NGS. John T Humphrey, CG(sm) Memorial Scholarship

To encourage those who are pursuing a career in genealogy by demonstrating a strong and serious interest in genealogy. The winning application receives a scholarship to pay for the current NGS American Genealogical Studies series. The scholarship covers the cost of three online courses (The Basics, Guide to Documentation and Source Citation and Beyond the Basics).

National Genealogical Society Newsletter Competition

The awards may be given annually to a student in either one or two age categories for an appropriately prepared genealogy. For criteria & requirements, click on the award name, above.

Donald Mosher Award for Colonial Virginia Research
The Donald Mosher Award is a $500 grant, established in 2001 by Merrill Hill Mosher,
CG, of Coos Bay, Oregon, in memory of her late husband, and is administered by the BCG Education Fund. The Mosher Award recognizes current, original colonial Virginia research published within the past twelve months or intended for future publication. Applicants must cite the submission’s publication or describe future publication plans. There is no deadline for future publication; however, Award funds are not released until publication is
