  • John Caldwell Calhoun, 1782. American statesman and first vice president of the US to resign that office (1832).
  • Grover Cleveland, 1837. 22nd and 24th president of the US. The only president to serve two non-consecutive terms.
  • William H. Johnson, 1901. African-American artist of the 1940s.
  • George Plimpton, 1927. Writer and editor, calling himself a “participatory” journalist, going to great lengths to research his work.
  • John Updike, 1932. Pulitzer Prize-winning author of more than 50 books and hundreds of short stories, essays and poems.
