  • Barbie, 1959. More than 800 million Barbie dolls have been sold since her debut on this day.
  • Yuri Alexseyevich Gagarin, 1934. Russian cosmonaut, the first person to travel in space, in 1961.
  • Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, 1890.  Not a bartender, but the Soviet People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs who claimed that Russian forces were dropping food and not incendiary bombs on Finnish forces during the Winter War, which led the Finns to christen their improvised gasoline bombs “Molotov cocktails.”
  • Amerigo Vespucci, 1454. Italian navigator, merchant and explorer for whom the Americas were named.
