Birthdays

  • William Jennings Bryan, 1860. American political leader, member of Congress, Democratic presidential nominee 1896, “free silver” advocate.
  • Wyatt Earp, 1848. Legendary gunslinger of the Old West. Best known for the gunfight at the OK Corral
  • David Livingstone, 1813. Physician, missionary and explorer born in Scotland. Spent 30 years in Africa, and lost touch with the Western world. Sought out by journalist Henry M. Stanley.
    Thomas McKean, 1734. Signer of the Declaration of Independence and governor of Pennsylvania.
  • Edith Nourse Rogers, 1881. YMCA and Red Cross volunteer in France during WWI, elected to US Congress in 1925 to fill the vacancy left by the death of her husband. Re-elected to the House of Representatives 17 times and the first woman to have her name attached to major legislation.
  • Charles M. Russell, 1864. Legendary Western artist.
  • Albert Pinkham Ryder, 1847. Painter known for his method of using many layers of paint on a canvas.
  • John Joseph Syrica, 1904. The “Watergate Judge” during the toppling of the Nixon administration.
  • Earl Warren, 1891. One of the most influential jurists in American law..
